Saturdays are for running around

We had quite the busy Saturday around here.  We all got up bright and early ... Benjamin and I enjoyed the early morning (relative) calm at the farmers market and Will went on a bike ride with some friends from church.  We all met back at home for brunch - blueberry muffins with fresh-from-the-market berries - yum!

Our big adventure for the day was Benjamin's first swim!  The weather was cooler and cloudier than it was forecasted to be, so the water was freezing!  But sweet Daddy braved it and let Benjamin kick his feet in it for a little while.  The main idea, really, was to sport our super cool swimming outfit...
I'm lookin' good!
I can surf, Mom, really, I know I can!
Yahoo!  Let's do this thing!

Ok, its a little cold, but I can take it!

After swimming, we came home, got washed, dressed, and headed out for Date Night!  Sweet friends offered to let the Little Man snooze at their house while Mommy and Daddy enjoyed our first evening out since he was born...

Seriously?!?!  You guys are getting dressed up and going to have fun and you're leaving me here in my dinosaur jammies?!?!  Can't the Little Guy catch a break?

Eighth Wonder of the World

I know that all mothers think their child is the cutest, smartest, best baby in the whole world.  However, I really think I may have given birth to the Eighth Wonder of the World.  Not only can Benjamin now wave hello and give high-fives, amongst other darling talents - like laughing after he burps ... I think I may have inadvertently taught him that, but that's a story for another day - but let me tell you what happened at Walmart last week...

It was my coupon day - ya know, you gather coupons, compile a list, then painstakingly walking through the store, comparison shopping price per ounce, 100-count and so on.  It took almost 2 hours and by the time we left I felt like my eyes were going to pop out of my head.  But I did save over $27 with coupons!  woot!

Also, interestingly enough, I left with enough hair care products and chocolate to last any sane person an entire year ... I started to take a picture of all the compiled chocolate, but it was just too embarrassing.

But I digress.  Back to the Eighth Wonder of the World.

Throughout our two-hour trek through Walmart, sweet Benjamin jabbered and giggled and kicked his feet and chewed on his toes and waved and high-fived ... the whole time, I'm telling you!  It was amazing!  It was so cute, I would conservatively estimate that 60% of the people we passed paused to look at, talk to, chuckle at, tickle, or otherwise interact with him.  That's part of why it took so long - we had to pause for our public.

In fact, we caused two separate cart collisions when people who were distracted by his cuteness ran into other people's carts.

I'm not even kidding about that.

And so, I ask you, could it possibly get any cuter than this?

If he gets any cuter, I really think I'm going to explode.

Change of Scenery

This afternoon, we decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather, our new backyard, and the beach-ball Benjamin got at this last Kindermusik class. We just needed a little change of scenery during that weird hour before dinner.

It was a gorgeous afternoon!

And I got to enjoy my morning-nap handiwork ... there were plenty of more urgent things to do than give myself a pedicure, but  a girl's gotta pamper herself sometime, right?

Benjamin even got to play with Mommy's sunglasses ... and then, the very best-est thing happened...

Daddy got home!!!

Hooray! Success!

As you can see, we went with the majority opinion, and my gut instinct, on Option 4 for the outfit.  And, I know I might be slightly biased, but I think these are absolutely the CUTEST baby pictures I have ever. seen. period.

Thanks everybody for your feedback and comments!  have a great weekend!

A Day in the Life...

Look, Mom, no hands!

King of Drool

Very interesting toes, these are!

You're gonna catch me when I topple over, right?

Tasty book!

Tasty face, Mommy!

New Discovery

Sorry for the lack of posting lately ... we have been so busy! But in the midst of all the comings and goings, Benjamin has made a new discovery ...

...Toes are very funny things!

And tasty too, but he was too fast for Momma to get a picture of that! :)

A Respite

Sweet Benjamin has been fiercely fighting the good fight of teething for the past 24 hours. Today, it seems, we have been granted a bit of a respite, and therefore, we decided to put on the "My 1st Tooth" shirt! No matter that you can't see any teeth in his precious grin, he deserves it after such a rough time. And Mommy is just soaking up that smile and those twinkling eyes after missing them so much yesterday!

Rubber Ducky

Bathtime is becoming one of our favorite activities around ye ole Trautman house.  Benjamin is discovering how to splash in the water and eat the washcloth and all sorts of fun things!  So, last night, we decided it was high time to introduce Rubber Ducky to our bathtime routine...

It's a hit!  Plus, he makes a handy bathtime teether, since we're cutting several teeth right now (poor baby!)

or should we say "Poor Ducky?"  Anyway, Benjamin is actually about to outgrow his little infant tub that fits in our sink!  crazy!  We love it for lots of reasons, not the least of which is how it shows up his big, blue eyes :)

I would type more, but my poor teething baby is needing me to give him a freshly frozen pacifier :)

The week flew by...

I can't believe it's Friday already! I guess the warmer, sunny weather just made time fly this week! So, in honor of the soon coming Spring (we hope!), Benjamin wore his "sunshine hat" today (even though today was actually cloudy and cool).

I can't decide if we should call this picture "Mr. Sunshine" or "Little Squash Baby" ... it kinda makes him look like a Veggie Tales character! :)

Five Months!

I can't believe my little boy is five months old today!  To celebrate, he's had several tricks up his sleeve lately...

Yesterday, as Mommy and Daddy were getting ready for church, he dozed off all by himself as he waited so patiently to get his church clothes on...

Then, last night, there was a whole new surprise in his little mouth...

oh, wait...

almost got it!

stop wiggling!

there, did you see it?

yup!  his very first tooth is poking through!

(A note to our future children:  you should be grateful that by the time you come along, Mommy and Daddy will not have the time to play with you for 15 minutes trying to get a picture of the tiny bit of tooth poking through your gums.  Go give your big brother a hug for having to endure this embarrassment.)

Then today, in a five-minute time span, he managed to soil every piece of clothing he had on in some way or another.  So, when I put him in his crib to hang out until I got the changing table cleaned up, the mischievous look on his face said, "Just see how fast I can get this blanket off of me!"

Thankfully, I was able to grab the camera in time!

Happy Birthday, Precious Benjamin!  Though it seems impossible, I love you more every single day!

I think...

Benjamin is officially too tall for this onesie! Sorry, kiddo, after today, this one's going in the save-for-little-brother box.

I also think that I found new favorite cookie, Coffee Toffee Bars. I made mine with whole wheat flour - absolutely delicious! (I'm sure all the butter helps - hee-hee :) but the coffee flavor comes through perfectly and the melty chocolate on top - perfection! Plus they're super easy to make - enjoy!

Growing Up So Fast!

Remember this tiny little bundle, snuggled up, so cozy and sweet? This is one of my favorite pictures from Benjamin's first week ... I think he was 2 days old here.

He watched his momma cook so many meals from that little chair... and wash so many dishes ... and type so many blog posts. :) Aaah, the nostalgia.

Anyway, today was Benjamin's 4 month check-up. He has gained three pounds and FOUR INCHES since his last visit, putting him in the 75th percentile for height! (He's still 50th percentile for weight ... 14 lbs., 11 ozs and 26.5 inches long). He's healthy in every way, and Benjamin made sure to show off how strong he is ... kicking the Dr's hands away when he was checking his hips and almost ripping the stethoscope right out of his ears when he was listening to his lungs. What fun toddlerhood is going to be! ;)

All this growing has necessitated the need for some new toys...

Every baby needs their own set of links, right?

And we are officially saying goodbye to the bouncy seat of the newborn days and graduating to his new contraption ... i don't even know the official name for it, but it's a hit

"Sheesh, Mom! Can you quit taking pictures and let me figure this thing out?!?!"
